I got the same mailer from LMRA and wondered if the market would support two also........so my opinion here is from the standpoint of being a charter member of the HOBOs, but not speaking for the organization............After some thought I can see some fantastic potential that could come from both groups playing to their strengths for "Preserving Lake Martin for Future Generations", but, eventually the issue will come down to which group we all will join, as most people will not likely join both...........A small concern I picked up from the letter from Mr Russell was his statement that they supported the early summer emergency releases that were made which compounded the effects of the drought, and has had a devestating effect on the local economy. Some how I think that was a very small group of people who made that choice without a lot of imput from the rest of us stakeholders.........I will stay with and support the HOBOs for a couple of reasons: it's membership is widespread around the lake and the Board represents that diversity......homeowners, boatowners and businesses, and second the Board will by definition look after the interests of that diverse membership or they will get booted out................I don't know Mr Russell or any of the LMRA folks( I'm sure they are all honorable people who will be diligent in their efforts), but , Russell Lands has a very well defined economic interest in their many investments which is completely expected....................I just don't think their decisions will or can be bent to take into account the interests of the dramatically different population that makes up Lake Martin now as opposed to when there were only a few cabins here. Whereas I can get to know the HOBO Board members, or volunteer and even run for a position in the organization and thereby influence it's agenda..............I hope both organizations are successful.......but I also hope the HOBOs remain a viable force that is laser focused on the needs of its almost 2000 members and the local economy we all support, now and into the future.
