You have obviously never owned a larger boat or even experienced a ride on one. I get your thinking.....someone's boat preference to what meets their needs means they are shallow and fake, right? What??? So you live in an apartment and drive a 10 year old astrovan? Right? There is nothing wrong with that situation and it is doable but maybe a 3 bedroom home with a yard and a newer ford escape would fit your family needs better? We have a very large family with lots of different needs. Grandparents that like to be able to get out of the sun but still want to be involved. A nephew with many disabilities that needs his meds refrigerated. Young kids that need a place to go to the bathroom while out on the water. A baby that needs an air conditioned place to take a nap. All these and other NEEDS! Even though we have had a great lake home for years and have other boating options nothing is quite like the flexibility and fun of the cruiser. Whether it is with family, guests or just my husband and I taking a evening boat ride or cooking out together and sleeping under the stars in a deserted cove one night. That is the beauty of the boating world! It is about a passion for the water! Whether you like high octane like skiing or tubing or prefer the lazy days of summer floating around on your boat. That is your choice...and I hope you are not making your choices especially financial ones based on what "looks good" or what others think. Those that can afford or just choose to have something bigger does not mean they are showing off or are too poor to own land. Boats bigger than the new law are far from cheap to own or maintain.

I love Lake Martin and love to share it with friends and family from around the world. I think it is a shame that those from around the country can not trailer their boat to beautiful lake martin and enjoy our wonderful Southern charm and great boating community!

I for one think it is a lot more of a nuisance and a bigger danger with all of the Jetski's and Seadoo's whizzing around. They are worse for the shoreline, bad on environmental factors, unless new (not a 2 stroke) they leak gas into our beautiful water, have the biggest percentage of tickets and accidents per volume and have the youngest and most inexperienced drivers in the boating world. Many lakes and rivers have banned them others have severe restrictions and more have additional certification required for driving them. But guess what? Have a couple and LOVE them!! Another opportunity to explore our passion for the water. I don't appreciate BIG business regulating my free time! I believe with any ownership comes responsibility. Yes, it would be great if everyone thought that way and drove responsibly and was always courteous...but they are not. There are laws already in place to keep OUR Lake Martin safe. Accountability and responsibility is our biggest problem, enforcement of the current laws the other problem. Banning big boats, fast boats, fishing boats, pontoon boats or PWC's are not going to change that!
