I do think something needs to be done about the rising cost of HC premiums. My insurance has been going up in double digit percentages every year for the past 5 years.
And I don't agree with Obama that tort reform isn't necessary. Part of the reason that Drs. prescribe test after test is because they are afraid if they don't put us through all the tests, we'll come back and sue them for malpractice. There are instances of malpractice, but to the extent that Drs. are sued? I don't think so.

I don't think socializing medicine is the answer. I'm concerned if Drs. are suddenly salary capped, we'll soon lose the best and brightest from the medical profession. My Canadian friend has told me how "disinterested" Drs. can be in Canada.

My friend was a nurse for 20+ years, and she left the profession because of staff cutbacks, and equipment shortages that she felt were jeopardizing patients health. Good thing she did too, because right after she left, there was a major incident and court case involving her hospital and patient care. And this was a major hospital in Downtown Toronto.
