Loud exhaust is one thing but safety is another. I know of at least two cases in the last few years on Lake Martin where loud boats were involved in accidents that caused two deaths. One was at night when a loud V-8 powered boat was approaching a dock where teenagers were swimming. Of course the driver could not hear the screams of the people in the water and the one in the water with the life preserver on was the one the boat hit. The others were able to dive under water to avoid the loud boat. Of course the teenagers should not have been swimming at 1:00 in the morning, but had it not been a loud boat, the other person would probably still be alive.

The other case, as I recall, was a loud boat that rear ended a pontoon boat at the edge of night. The pontoon boat driver was thrown from the boat and was found two days later. I'm not sure, but I suspect the people on the pontoon boat were very vocal before the impact occurred. Again, the boat driver probably would have heard the other people had it not been for the macho noisy boat.
