Subject:   AL Septic System Rules
Date:   1/28/2008 9:06:40 AM

I would imagine their fight over the septic system is with the Tallapossa or Elmore (???) County Health Department. All the Counties have to follow the Alabama Rules (see attachment). I could be wrong, but I do not think AL Power gets involved other than the required set back from the Lake which is set-forth in the Alabama Rules.

The rules for new septic systems has become much more stringent. You can read the Alabama Rules in the below attachment.

I have had a dickens of a time getting approvasl for my septic plan for my new home.

Everyone building a new home needs to read and understand the below attachment. They can get you in trouble very quickly as I have found out. A two thousand dollar system has turned into a twelve thousand dolllar planed system for me personally, and I still do not have a system installed which will require a further final inspection approval. I am exaggerating a bit but not by much.

Yes, it is possible to build a new home without a septic approval as I have found out in Coosa Couty. Coosa County does not require building permits. I am not sure about Elmolre and Tallapossa Counties.

It is kind of amazing to me that with a new home or new construction things are so difficult for a septic system. It has turned out to be a very expensive lessons learned on my part. I guess that is why you see so many additions to old cabins as opposed to new homes around the Lake. The rules govern the size and type of spetic system based upon the size of the new hojme and number of bedrooms and baths. It is used to determine the size of the field lines and the type of spetic system which is allowed..

People are putting up major additons to old cabins and using their old septic systems that would never pass the new rules and/or law. for a new home. They have septic systems for a two bedroom and one bath cabin with 1,000 sq. ft., and they are adding a new place which had five bedrooms and four baths with over 4,000 sq. ft. of living area.

If the below attachment helps one other poor soul; then I have done my job for the day. It has helped make me a poorer soul. LOL
