... and found this following exchange in one of the threads:
On 12/9 jawjagal said the following…… What state do you live?
In the next post JIM responded with…… What state do you live? And you are a school teacher?.
Then jawjagal said….. One is never, grammatically speaking, supposed to end a sentence with a preposition.
So, if I had asked, "What state do you live IN" - IN would have been a preposition. I was grammatically correct, Jim.
Now, do you want to really ask an English teacher that question?
I am no english teacher, if fact I can barely speak it, much less teach it. I AM fluent in "southern" and when in chat rooms on the net I spoke mostly "typo". But to me the opening post does not properly convey the question as stated.
Should it not have read.... "IN what state do you live?"
Not trying to pick a fight, just "stirring the puddin' " a little....;<)
But the poetry is GREAT jawjagal!!!
And as aside, I recently (last 6 months or so), read an article that was about the ending in a preposition thing. Apparently the rules are being relaxed a bit. Seems it is easier to change the rules than to TEACH how to obey the old ones.
