Two that have always irritated me occur when you call an office and ask to speak to some one. The receptionist or secretary will say “May I ask who is calling” or “May I tell him who is calling”. The inference is if “he” does not want to talk to you “he” will be out. My response is always “Sure, go ahead and ask” or “Sure, go ahead and tell him”. They get the message and you get through.
