I remember the accident well and know that some of you knew those involved--but we all know that that accident was caused by excessive speed. Whether an engine (turbine) failed or it was operator fault--speed caused the collision and the deaths. When you are operating anything mobile at excessive speed (speed that exceeds your reaction and judgement ability) bad things can and do happen. No amount of training, fire extinguishers, etc. can help if you are operating a fast boat in any conditions other than the open sea--which Lake Martin ain't.

You and I know how we each feel on this subject, but I will respond in kind when I see responses that support excessive speed on the lake.
Watch a NASCAR race; they crash routinely and it always involves excessive speed--but they are equipped for it--lake boats are not.
