I do not mean to ruffle any feathers; but I probably will anyway. I am curious if smooth water is necesary for surfing behind a boat. To me, it does not seem that smooth water is necesary as you are purposefully creating a huge wave and wake and the boat smooths out any chop. If smooth water is not needed, then why do surfers like to go into protected sloughes and beat the heck out of all of the docked boats, swimmers, and shorelines. It would be much better if they stayed in the open water where they would not cause damage to other people's property, but maybe smooth water is needed.

I understand skiing needing smooth water and at those speeds, the wake is small, but we have people creating 3 to 4 foot wakes in tight creeks and sloughs (Elkahatchee Creek). Just curious. Thanks
