It's true I didn't grow up here, but I'll bet a lot of people who did would agree with me. It isn't like the Confederacy took place during the lifetime of anyone still living. No old soldiers who wore the grey uniform hobbling around who need to be honored.

I would think that the South and Southerners would like to put that particular past to rest. It's not like slavery and racial intolerance are something to be proud of, like say, Southern hospitality or manners or food or being friendly. Why not find a symbol that celebrates something positive about the South and hang it out for all to see?
